To start sending emails from your organization’s email domain, just follow the three simple steps below. Don't have your own domain? Register one today.
Step 1 - Submit your request to us.
Send an email to emailsetup@officedesktop.com with the name of the domain you want to use. When we receive it, we will first verify ownership of the domain and then configure your domain for spam and virus filtering. We will let you know once this is done so that you can start on your end.
Step 2 – Create email accounts for your users.
- In Basics within the Admin section, click New Email Account Quick Add.
- In the email address field, enter the first part of the email address you're creating; an example is jsmith. In most cases, this is the same as the User ID. Please note that before you create an email address for someone, they must first be set up as a user.
- From the drop-down below it, select your domain.
- Go down to the big box below and highlight the name of the person for whom you're creating the email address.
- Click Save and Exit.
Step 3 – Have the company where your domain is registered (your domain host) map your email record to OfficeDesktop.
Before you do this, please be sure that you set up email accounts in your online office for all active email accounts. This way, you won't lose any emails.
- Go to your domain host's Website and login to your domain host account.
- Find the MX Record controls for your domain. An MX Record is like a postal code to which emails are sent.
- Look for a link like: MX Record Management, DNS Management, Mail Server Configuration, or Name Server Management. Or, search for the terms "DNS Settings" or "MX Record." They may be under Advanced Settings.
If you can't find them, just call your domain host and ask for help in pointing your domain's MX Record to a new email provider. When you find your domain's MX Record controls, do the following:
- Delete all old MX Records tied to your domain.
- Create new MX Record(s) with the information that we provide.
We will inform you once the MX record mapping has taken effect. You can then start sending and receiving emails with your own domain.
